Step 2 - Advertiser

Are you looking to bring the Television planning and buying of your advertising in-house?

By bringing the planning and buying of your advertising campaigns in-house, you will be buying your airtime directly from the Broadcaster or Sales House and not through a Media Agency.

What are your UK television billings for this calendar year?

The licence fee to access Barb data and user it to plan and buy your advertising campaigns is based upon your Television billings.

Are you using the data for internal purposes only?

Internal purposes means that you will be using the Barb data within your company only. You will not be sharing the data with a third party and you will continue to use a Media Agency to plan and buy your advertising campaigns.

Do you require a full or limited user licence?

1 – Full End User Licence
A Full End User licence is for Barb data that has a value of £14,250 or more. You tend to need this licence if you are accessing a data analytic system from a Data Bureau. This has an annual fee of £9,870.

2 – Limited End User Licence
A Limited End User licence is for data that has a value of less than £14,250. The cost of the licence is 10% of the amount charged by the data bureau for the Barb data. There is a minimum fee of £400. You tend to need this licence if you are purchasing a small amount of data from a bureau.

Both the Full End User Licence and the Limited End User Licence will be administered by the data bureau that you access the Barb data from. The cost of the data is in addition to the End User Licence fee.

Are you wanting to publish Barb data in an article, report, in a presentation or in marketing material?

How do I get Barb data?

There are several options available to access Barb data. The vast majority of Barb subscribers choose to access Barb data via a data bureau. These companies have created user friendly analytic systems and services. A list of the companies is here. As an independent company to Barb, there is a separate fee payable directly to the chosen bureau.

Barb has an API feed which is free to access for Barb subscribers. You will need software to be able to analyse the data.

There is also topline data available in the subscriber section of the Barb website which is updated on a weekly basis. Access to the subscriber section will be available with purchase of a full licence.

How can I use Barb data?

If you are purchasing a publishing licence, this licence allows Barb data to be published in programme rankings, charts, graphs and tables, as well as in the editorial text. All data must be credited to Barb accordingly.

If you are planning and buying your advertising campaigns in house this licence will allow you to use Barb data to plan and buy your advertising campaigns and use the data as part of your negotiations with Broadcasters and Sales Houses.

If you are purchasing an End User Licence then you may only use Barb data for internal purposes.

What time period does my licence fee cover?

The licence fee provided is the annual licence fee which is based on the calendar year.

If you would like to take a licence after January, the fee will be prorated to the first of the month in which the licence is active.

The minimum fee is £400, the final fee depends on the cost of the data you are purchasing from the Data Bureau.
